Church hears presentation on Imagine No Malaria

On Sunday, September 25, the congregation heard a presentation by Camilla McKinney on the church initiative called Imagine No Malaria. This program, an extension of the popular program Nothing but Nets which purchased mosquito bed nets, seeks a sustainable solution to the prevention of malaria on the continent of Africa.

McKinney, who works at the Illinois Great Rivers Conference office in the Office of Congregational Development and also makes presentations conference-wide on Imagine No Malaria, reported that a person dies from malaria every 45 seconds. While this is an improvement on the former statistic of a person dying every 30 seconds, it is a long way from elimination of the disease.

Imagine No Malaria focuses on education, treatment, and communications on the use of treated bed nets, the elimination of standing water and more. McKinney offered a number of ideas for the congregation to raise funds to support the initiative over the next three years.
